An Un-Incentivised Property Perspective

My Story

I was fortunate enough to be exposed to property early on through my parents. At the age of 8 I started saving for my first investment property. I didn’t save a whole lot in the early years as my only source of income was birthday money - it taught me a lot about delayed gratification. Instead of spending money on toys for immediate entertainment, I saved for something I thought would be more worthwhile.

I missed my goal of buying at 18 due to an $8 an hour apprentice income meaning I couldn’t service. I wouldn’t have my parents go guarantor or receive any “gifts” out of pride/ego for wanting to do it myself. I bought two properties at 19, worked 3 jobs for 80-100 hours a week and have done a few projects since; flips, buy and hold and 1 into 2 subdivision.

I have worked in the industry as a selling agent for 5 years and now operate a buyers agency, project management and property management company. This space is designed to be a break from that - I show up here as a bloke to talk property and share a sometimes-polarising perspective.

Why I'm Passionate About Property

I love property for what it is, without the financial upside. I treat it like a sport and enjoy it the same way others enjoy their hobbies. The hope with this website and personal social media platforms is that I’ll be able to interact with others who also enjoy the game.

Selecting Your
Property Strategy

A lot of people spend a lot of time stressing and labouring over their first purchase, ending up in what’s known as analysis paralysis. I've broken down the different types of investing to help you decide.

Lazy
Cashflow

You’ve probably heard of lazy equity. This refers to the equity in a property not being put to work. So, it just sits there. The recommendation is often to refinance out the equity and use it as a deposit to buy another property – putting that equity to work for you.

Don't Buy
New

As an ex sales agent I've seen first hand the financial damage caused to buyers of house and land packages as well as off the plan apartments.
